Hear the pitter-pat of rain, steady rain!
What a world of saturation does its constancy ordain. 
How it sprinkles, sprinkles, sprinkles, soaking everything in sight.
How it waters every wrinkle of the rose and periwinkle
till they blossom with delight.
Coming down, down, down, in an atmospheric frown,
in the never-ending pattern and continuous refrain
of the rain, rain, rain, the enthralling, ever-falling, steady rain!
 
See the silver, slanting rain, freezing rain! 
How its swift accumulation puts unreasonable strain 
on the surface of the roads.   Where the traffic is a fright
for the drivers and their loads,  as the traction there erodes
in the freezing air of night.
Spinning round, round, round, as the accidents abound.
And the highway is a snarl on the paralyzed terrain,
in the rain, rain, rain.  In the tire-seizing, freezing, slanting rain!
 
See the dark and dirty rain, acid rain! 
To our monuments, our buildings and our forests what a bane. 
How it grows, grows, grows, the destruction and the blight. 
How our buildings decompose with pollution that arose 
from our factories despite 
all the laws, laws, laws, that have failed us because 
they are fostered by political agendas they sustain. 
While the rain, rain, rain, is remaining and is staining acid rain!
 
See the horizontal rain, torrid rain! 
From a tropical depression to a raging hurricane. 
How it slashes!  How it bashes with destructive appetite. 
How it tears at doors and sashes as the wind and water trashes
nearly everything in sight.
Blowing hard, hard, hard, with a total disregard 
for the absolute destruction that it reeks in its domain 
with the rain, rain, rain, the accelerating, penetrating rain!
 
Hear the gentle soothing rain, healing rain! 
What a harmonizing influence it has upon the brain. 
How it drips, drips, drips, making music in the night. 
See it sparkle!  See it shimmer, as the falling droplets glimmer
in the early morning light.
Through your tears, tears, tears, hear the music of the spheres
as it traces in your ears the mellifluous refrain 
of the rain, rain, rain, of the convalescent, effervescent rain!
